The Apprentice Effect: How Investing in Skills Future-Proofs Our Industry

At JCE Contracting, we’ve always believed that experience means nothing if it isn’t shared. The electrical trade depends on people who are willing to teach, learn and keep the craft alive. That’s why apprenticeships aren’t just part of what we do — they’re part of who we are.

Passing on real-world knowledge

Jerry, our founder, has been in the industry for decades. His experience covers everything from domestic installations to large commercial projects across Somerset and Wiltshire. But what sets him apart is his passion for teaching. Jerry spends part of his week at the electrical college in Yeovil, helping train the next generation of electricians. His goal is simple: to pass on genuine, hands-on knowledge that goes far beyond the textbooks.

Growing our own talent

Within JCE, we’ve built a strong apprenticeship pathway that gives young electricians real site experience from day one. They work alongside experienced tradespeople, learning not just the technical side of the job but also how to communicate with clients, manage safety and take pride in their work. Many of our current electricians started their careers as JCE apprentices — and we couldn’t be prouder of that.

Building the future together

The industry is changing fast, and we believe the best way to keep standards high is by investing in people. Apprentices bring energy, curiosity and fresh perspectives, while our senior team ensures that the knowledge and values that built JCE continue to grow with every new recruit.

Welcoming our newest apprentice

We’re also delighted to welcome our newest apprentice, Minerva (or Min, as everyone calls her). She joined us in September after deciding on a career change and has already settled in brilliantly. Min brings a fresh enthusiasm to the team, tackling every challenge with curiosity and confidence. It’s great to see her passion for learning shine through, and we’re excited to help her grow as part of the JCE family.

We’re proud to play our part in shaping the future of our trade both on site and in the classroom. Currently our apprentice positions are all filled, we will always be on the lookout for our next apprentices, feel free to get in contact with us.
